Budapest, Hungary

~~~~~~~
So what's here in Budapest??
It is indeed a very beautiful city.
We of course took the hop on bus to get an overview of the city. There are several companies who run the hop on bus services. We took the City Sightseeing bus where we can ride green, pink, red and purple line.
The is also maroon bus but I'm sure the route are just similar.
Our bus offer 2 free boat rides along Danube River, where I propose to go once during daytime so that you can get off at Margeret island. Here you are also entitled one hour free bicycle ride with the voucher enclosed in the booklet attached with the bus ticket.
The next boat ride you must take is during the night time where you will get an amaaazing view with explanations along along the one hour cruise.
Tiket is valid for 48 hours and to tell you the truth, I did not finish all hot spots (because I only had 24 hours!!.. Ticket given by Mr Michiel as he had enough fpr one day.  Ha ha)
~~~~~~~

Some of those spots not to be missed are;

1. Citadella (Liberty statue)
2. Buda castle 🏰
3. The castle district (Matthias church)
4. Hero square
5. Central market (more varieties here, and cheaper souvenirs)... I bought cheese, honey in comb, hand made table cloth, bags, fridge magnets, paprika, and Kaviar!!!
6. Hard Rock Cafe Budapest
7. The Parliament of Budapest
8. Thermal bath.. There are few. I only went to Gallert Hotel Bath

Didn't have time to go to the Labyrinth underneath the Buda castle 😭

I went also to motorbike shop where Sam bought himself a helmet. Bike shop named moto.hu...  It is at the Buda side, just near the Batthyany ter Metro stn.

~~~~~~
Budapest airport;
Tax refund is no fun here. The Customs only give u stamps. Then the refund you have to get it from the shop.
It is somewhat not possible unless you post it to them,.. Which I think very unlikely they will refund you the money.
And they want to see the goods,...with the boarding pass. How is that???!!! Meaning you have to check in without handing over your luggage, then to drop the luggage again after checking they put a stamp on your forms. Ridiculous!!
And one more thing, there is no trolleys at the departure area. It's crazy I have to drag all my big luggage (3 of them at one time) hete and there. Can't even go to the toilet until the check in counter open (it strictly open only 2 hours before departure. Sigh!!!
And I saw signs of Hard Rock Cafe at Terminal 2A near departure area,.. Only signs. Shop was not found till the end. Ha ha
~~~~~~

So I'm leaving to London now. I hope to have a safe flight.. InsyaAllah... Continued by my final inbound flight back home tonight. Yay!

Wassalam.

Sunday 25 October 2015

What's up in Bratislava, Slovakia ?

I asked the taxi, how much to get to Hrad Devin..  He said €25!! So forget it..
Found a Malaysian guy at the train stn,  Firdaus who was also travelling alone during his free weekend (currently in the middle of one month training in Slovakia). He booked a backpackers hostel in town costing €13... Interesting!
Found also a group of four Malaysians walking to the train station but they wouldn't stop when I greeted them. It's ok.
DOWTOWN BACKPACKERS HOSTEL
So I followed Firdaus to his backpackers hostel..  And vwallah.. Not too bad for a €14 per night. It's a sharing dorm but the reception she put me in with a girl,.. In separate dorm. Awesome!!
~~~~~
After solat... We were ready to explore the city. I proposed to go to Hrad Devin first.. The reception girl advise us to go by bus,.. Only cost €0.9, valid for 90 minutes in weekend. For weekdays is 60 minutes.
Bus took 20 minutes to reach the Devin castle (~15).. from Nova SND bus stn nearby the hotel. Bus is available every hour. We took bus #28 and stop at Devin (or Monova). It's easy to get the tickets, just to make sure you carry enough Euro coins.
End of Day 1
~~~~~
Day 2
Today I rented a bike from the hostel.. €10 per day... Better and faster coverage, and it's safe. By noon I've covered most of the attractions.
Found the حلال kuskus restaurant in town where I had my lunch there for €4.90
Head back to hotel to checkout and return the bicycle.
That's the end of Bratislava journey. I'm heading back to the train station now to catch the hourly train to Vienna.
I hope I can be back in Budapest before sunset. I hope...
InsyaAllah

Hannes and Lucas from Vienna Technical University took.me around that night in Vienna city. We went to see the orchestra, paying only €20 instead of €59 to enjoy the 1h30m show. It was great to listen to Mozart and opera singing. Amazing voice indeed.
Vienna is a lively city by night. The shop close quite late especially the souvenirs shop. Cafes and bars stay open until pass midnight.
We had dinner in Pakistani restaurant in town, where you can eat as much and pay as you like. It's all حلال
The shop owner was so happy to see me in hijab and we had a good chat.
It's the end of a great night in Vienna. I hope to come again next time.
Going to sleep now as tomorrow I'm hoping to go to Bratislava, Slovakia 

São Paulo

I had 15 hours outbound plus 12 hours inbound transit in Sao Paulo but why I didn't explore the town?

After asking Brazilian friends, thesw are their answers:

1. Not worth the trip, traffic so bad it might take two hours to reach the city

2. People don't speak English much, only Portuguese. U might get lost

3. Taxi can easily over-charge you when they know that you are foreigner

4. Walking alone is not safe for lady in São Paulo

So I didn't go

Word from Tony

Tony Fernandes's top 10 tips for entrepreneurs

1) You don’t need to know everything

I came from the music business. I knew nothing about planes. To all the entrepreneurs out there, you don’t need to know everything about what you want to do. It’s all about the idea, it’s about passion, it’s about implementing it.

2) Just do it!

Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. You’ve got one life, so you can’t press the rewind button and say ‘I wished I had done that.’

So I recommend to all of you out there, just do it. Live your life to the utmost, be positive. If you fail, at least you have tried.

I have failed miserably at Formula One, but I have no regrets because I got to stand with the greats from Ferrari, McLaren, and others.

3) Passion is a key problem-solver

Dreams do come true. Don’t worry about failure. You have one life, make the most out of it. Nine times out of 10, if you have the passion, you will find a way to work through it.

4) Invest in marketing

If you have the greatest idea in the world, please, please, please put some money on marketing. This is because if you don’t put money on marketing, nobody is going to hear about your great idea.

There are so many great ideas that never took off because of a lack of marketing.

Marketing is not about the dollars, it is also about public relations (PR). In AirAsia, we had no money. So I ran around with a red cap on and said controversial things so that the press would always take a picture of me. That was our marketing in AirAsia’s early days.

We have been through so many issues, and marketing played a key role in overcoming them.

Remember SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome)? At that time, nobody wanted to fly; we all thought we are going to die.

Everyone cut their advertising, but I told my guys not to cut because this was the best time to build our brand. In fact, we tripled our advertising and everyone looked at me and said, “Are you on drugs?” I said, no, it is the best time because no one else is advertising.

When the first Bali bomb attack happened, everyone cancelled their flights. I said to the guys, we cannot let the Bali route die. We must continue to fly.

So we came up with ‘Love Bali’ campaign, giving away 10,000 free seats, and it worked. All 10,000 seats were snapped up in like under one minute. And all those who got those seats told all their friends about it on social media. Your best advertisement is your customers.

5) Leverage social media

When Malaysians get a good deal, they will tell the whole world about it. So the 10,000 people who went and had a good time in Bali, told 10,000 people that they had a good time. That was the early gestation of AirAsia’s social media.

We realised the power of social media very early on, so when Facebook and Twitter came up, we latched onto them. We were early adopters. We now have 32 million people on our various social media platforms, and 7 per cent of our business comes directly from social media.

The Bali campaign taught us that our best advertisements are our customers.

6) Don’t be scared of complaints

Complaints are actually free market research. Someone took the effort to write to you to tell you where things went wrong and how they should be improved. These are things that companies pay a lot of money for consultants to tell them that same thing.

So we treat every email preciously.

7) Focus on one image when it comes to branding

During the early days, there was the word ‘AirAsia’ and a logo of a bird in our branding.

If you look at the top brands in the world, there’s only one image that comes to your mind. When I say “Shell,” you think of the Shell logo. When I say “Coca-Cola,” you think of the word ‘Coke’ in italics, and when I say “Nike,” you think of the swoosh.

So, back to our earlier AirAsia brand, we said drop the bird – we felt it was facing the wrong way anyway – and we used ‘AirAsia’ as our logo. Just one image. Why spend double the money to promote two images?

We also dropped the blue and the green colours. I tried very hard not to go with red, because everyone thinks that I want to be Richard Branson [the Virgin Group founder and Fernandes’ former boss] ... but it was the best colour, so we picked red.

So yes, the colour does make a big difference!

8) Go on the ground

What I used to do – although I don’t do this anymore – was that once a month, I would carry bags, I would be a cabin crew [member], and also at the check-in counter.

I did this for two reasons. The first is that you can’t be an effective CEO (chief executive officer) unless you go on the ground to experience the real situation.

Here’s a true story. The baggage handling team told me that they needed belt loaders. I told them, “No, we can’t buy that as it’s too expensive.”

So one day when I was tasked to carry bags, they put me on one of the Indonesia flights. People who fly with us generally bring their house with them, but people who fly to Indonesia bring their neighbour’s house as well!

So there was a lot of bags. I broke my back in the process, and I told my team that they were right and I was wrong, and let’s buy the belt loaders.

If I didn’t do that [go on the ground] and just sat comfortably in the office, I would have made a wrong decision, damaged a lot of bags, and probably started a union.

The second reason [for going on the ground] is that I wanted to look for talent. I wasn’t looking for the talents from Oxford or Cambridge, I was looking for the Grade 3 SPM [O Levels equivalent] kind of guys who needed a second chance.

9) Never underestimate the potential of your staff

I broke all the rules in terms of hiring people. To me, as long as you have a dream, you can do anything.

There was an ex-cabin crew member – she came up to me one day and told me that her dream was to become a pilot. I told her to go for it.

Then she called me up one day and asked if she could take part in the Miss Thailand [beauty pageant], and I told her okay, as long as I get to use her photographs in our marketing materials.

She won the [Miss Universe Thailand] pageant and recently became a captain – so we are the only airline in the world with a Miss Thailand flying with us.

The moral of the story is that we have such a flat structure that she was able to tell me what her dreams were, and we were able to make a raw diamond into a diamond.

Another one of my boys, a baggage handler in Kuching, told me he wanted to become a pilot. I told him to go for it. He passed all the exams ... he had the top marks in the flying academy. Today, he is a captain.

We have many of such stories at AirAsia.

Your biggest assets, besides your ideas, are your people – because at the end of the day, it is the people who will deliver your ideas.

10) Data is king

We have a huge amount of data that we don’t know what to do with it, but everyone else wants our data ... so we figured it must be something very valuable and there must be an opportunity there.

We are investing in a few ventures. We plan to launch our own version of TripAdvisor, a travel dongle, a new YouTube-type of channel and more – data will be playing an essential role in these ventures. Data will be king. —

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

I was supposed to fly to HCMC yesterday,.. Together with k Sue and Farah Loubna. Bought the Airasia free ticket promotion for RM411 for three pax, return!! Super cheap.

I've booked also Blessing 1 Saigon hotel right in the smack of HCMC center I.e 50m from Benh Thanh Market. Paid USD65 for two nights. Room is suitable for two person as it is quite small. But very convenient.

Stone chronology

10/10/15, Saturday

Since morning I start having this pain like a period pain. At 8pm I took 1 ponstant.. Pain goes away a little while. Then it start coming back again.

At 12pm it becomes unbearable. I took two ponstant this time. Still, too much pain to handle.

At 2am, I urge husband to bring me to hospital. He drove me to Columbia Asia emergency and they immediately checked me in.

Urine test shows bacterial infection and blood test shows high white blood cell count. They suspected appendicitis or kidney stone. But definitely not period pain. I was thrilled.

At 3am I was warded. Husband went back for the kids.

11/10/15 8am, Sunday,.

They sent me for ultrasound..  Confirmed for kidney stones. They found one on the urethra junction on the right kidney and the other one inside the left kidney.

Dr Aru came later and proposed two options ; operation or medication. I choose operation of course as medication does not guarantee fast healing, and plus,.. My right kidney has swollen and in a "funny" shape.

At 2pm, I went for an operation to remove the stone,. Chosen full body anaesthetic due to my not-so-good history with local anaesthetic during c-sect last time.

At 3.30pm I woke up,. Found out the everything went well. Alhamdulillah.

I will never forget this valuable experience and mark as part of my life journey.

Thank you husband, mom dad, sister and families for supporting my journey.

About Balneario Camboriu

Belnario Camborio is located about 600km south São Paulo. Local flight flying to the nearest airport i.e Navegantes (NVT) is Azul which departs at Terminal 4 of São Paulo International airport (GRU).

What about Balneario Camboriu??

It is in the State of Santa Catarina,.. Famous with beautiful beaches. People are warm, siper nice, love to party and they laugh a lot.  Hiiiii

English is not much spoken here. I even help a guy installing Google translate app on his phone so we can communicate.

It was fun, and enjoyable trip indeed

Saturday 26 September 2015

SIPDA XIII @ Balneario Camboriu, Brazil

Another journey to be recorded.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.. Rabbi yassir wala tu assir.

Tonight InsyaAllah I'll be flying to Sao Paulo via Abu Dhabi. First timer on Etihad airways.. That was the cheapest option I found from Matta fair... (just study the route. Booking was 100% done myself online)

Recorded journey hours 23h KUL to GRU + 15h at GRU + 1h GRU to NVT

KUL - AUD (Abu Dhabi) ; 7 hours
Transit ; 2 hours
AUD - GRU (Sao Paulo) ; 14 hours

Transit for 15 hours at GRU airport, I took a little room for USD60 (~RM270)... It's 'cute' enough it can fit only one sejadah on the floor. Luckily the kiblat was pointing on the perfect angle so I can put my sejadah just on that floor.

My next flight will be the next morning at 7.20am.. Arrived yesterday at 4.30pm at GRU ,. Luckily I didn't take the earliest connection to Navegantes which was at 6.30pm via Azul. I'm not a risk taker though..

Found out that the arrival from AUH was at Terminal 3, Fast Sleep airport hotel at Terminal 2, and Azul domestic flight will be at Terminal 4. Terminal 4 is pretty far as it is in a separate building.

So, about Fast Sleep hotel,. It is located here in Terminal 2 of São Paulo airport. Paid Rs229 (~USD60 or RM250). But it is worth it. I really need a good rest before next flight to my final destination at Navegantes.

Will be missing the keynote speeches on Monday morning but it's ok. I'll chat with them and gain back what was lost.

See ya

~~~~~~
0825hrs: Finally arrived NVT. It's a very small airport. They have only one carousel for luggage so I guess maybe one flight at a time will land here.
There are two options from here to go to Mercure Hotel where SIPDA XIII is.. Taxi or public van operated by Lufer. The van travels frequently (1 to 2 hourly from 8am to 855pm daily) from NVT airport to common hotels in Balneario Camboriu. It cost me BRL35 per trip (~RM40).. That is good enough for a budget traveller ;)
Taxi would cost around BRL90
About Maldives
General knowledge about Maldives...
Malaysian don't worry,,..  Plug socket are the same,. So leave your international adapter behind.
TV channels are mostly in English, and got Indonesian language subtitles. So again, feel like home.
Before arriving in Maldives, check with your hotel about the transport. Public transport (boat/ferry) are only available from airport to nearby island. The rest u might need to get hotel transfer or sea plane, cost is superrr!... high!
Currency used are mainly in USD.. Even though they have Ruffiya, but it's not widely used. In Male city they accept mainly all top currencies I.e USD, Euro..
There are like hundreds of Atolls (island) forming Maldives. Pick yours 
The best month (really sunny) would be March - Apr... Whilst rainy season would be July - August..  Dec until Feb are normally fully booked here in Holiday Inn due to end of year school holidays worldwide and also valentines in Feb.
Ferry transfer from Male to Airport are available almost every 30mins. Trip only took 15mins and costs Rfy10 or USD1 (USD1 = Rfy15). They don't give change if you pay usd so better pay in Ruffiya lahh :)
About Holiday Inn Kandooma
The rate? Yes,. Crazy expensive.. But it's worth every penny..
There are so many activities here.. And very kids friendly...  The Kandoo Kids welcomes children and they can take care of your kiddos while you enjoy other facilities. Activities like frame making, face painting, origami etc are all FOC. Enjoy as much as they like.
PS4 game are also available..  Movie nights (or day) can be requested if they feel like watching one.
Surfing, diving, sailing, paragliding, etc are all chargeable but it's worth the try!
Even if u don't plan to spend extra on those activities, there are a lot more things to do here on this island... Just have a stroll along the beach, or snorkel on your own at the lagoon (equipments I.e. Mask, goggle, life jacket etc are available at the sports center...  At no charge of course!).
Kayaking is also complimentary.
Kids eat free here.. With at least 1 paying adult (for dinner and lunch only. Breakfast are free). Food are awesome...
The staff are super friendly. They called each of us by name.. Even Nana! Ha ha. I didn't know when did she knew Nana's name. Hiihi.  Salute tu Bandula and Janice
Worth every penny!!!
Wow! We surely did not make any mistakes by choosing this resort at the first place.
Yes the rate are crazy but everything else are COMPLIMENTARY 
Since I booked a double room and turns out five that arrives, they informed that it is compulsory to pay for an extra bed for USD60 per night for syasya. Aril and Nana gets to stay for free! Phew. Somehow with the crazy Ringgit drops and 22% extra taxes charged by Maldives government, we ended up paying around RM1,400 ++ per night.
When we arrived Male airport, the hotel staff were already waited for us with his Holiday Inn sign. I only discovered last week that there are no public transport to this private island so we have to pay US200++ per adult and USD100++ per kids.. Nana travel for FREE.! Yay!!!
In Maldives, from Male airport, public transport only goes to Male island (the city center), and few island nearby. Others are all private speedboats.. Or even sea plane.
In 30 minutes or so, we arrived Holiday Inn Kandooma at South Male Atoll... The welcoming greet are awesome!! Everybody knows us, they know exactly each and everyone of us.. Welcomed us with sweet drink and they even offered to do the documentation in the Kandoo Kids center as the kids started behaving "wild". He he
We booked the sea view double room. It was awesome,.  We've got a garden with hammock. And of course the kids most favourite, outdoor shower! 
In this resort almost everything is complimentary. Kayaking; snorkeling gear, lesson and trips; diving for beginner; and even dolphin cruise because we booked very much earlier.
Breakfast was for 2 adult,. And kids below 12 are all completely FREE!
If we purchase dinner for 2, again kids are all FREE!
And owh,. Free flow of drink at the beach station. Weehooo
The paying activities are like surfing and wind sailing.. This is because it is operated by other company.
This is what I call peace of mind 
Dolphin cruise
We found them,, yay!
hello kandoo boys
It's the day
It's the day!
It's finally here!!
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..  Rabbi yassir wala tu assir.
Kids have been asking for weeks. We've been waiting for months. The day is finally here. Our most awaited Maldives Trip. Yay
Did I share before thay MAS has contacted us to inform that starting August 1st, there was no more direct flight to Male from KL. So they re-routed us to Colombo and then to Male via Sri Lanka Airlines (Code UL)
We arrived KLIA very early to pick up the hotel and meal voucher, as per advised by the call operator. Upon arriving at counter C17 at Level 5, nobody knew abt the voucher. They said that thw collection shall be at Colombo airport. They confirmed our reservation at Tamarind Tree Hotel via the system.
Ok then,. So I took the paper and direct for check in.. Hoping everything will be smooth once we arrive in Colombo.
We should be arriving near to midnight (local time) and our connection flight will be at 7am the next morning.
Settling everything, we then went to Plaza Premium Lounge. Awesome. We used both our priority visa platinum cards from Maybank and Citibank for a free access, and guess what.. All our kids get to get in for FREE! Awesome.!!
I am now on board the plane. Alhamdulillah So far so good. Will be updating more later InsyaAllah
Me and travelling
A friend asked me.. Ninie, u r always travelling.. Or on vacation. Why?
I said "Why not?"
For me that's rezeki. Some people measure rezeki only with naik pangkat or naik gaji. But they forgot rezeki can come in any forms. Happy family is also rezeki.
I would spare a little bit of my money to share happiness with people I love. Some people, all the money they got,.. They keep in the bank. By end of the day, the moment they realise their money has piled,.. But too late to use. Maybe the body is aching.. Or too old to feel the fun.
I feel grateful that Allah gave me this chance to see His creation. To wonder the beauty.. To feel complete. Alhamdulillah
So, don't judge people easily. Maybe thay are good in their way. Allah knows all
Wallahualam
Maldives lesson learnt
Hi,
I'll be listing our lesson learnt from this trip.. hope will benefit all
1. Book hotels early. Walk in will be very risky. Price will be very high and if not available, you  have to go to the next Atoll (island) !!
2. Boat transfer from atoll to atoll is very expensive. Water plane will cost even more. Ask hotel if they provide transfer. very costly also (refer my previous post!)
3. Careful in selecting your incoming flight. Arriving at Male Airport at night might end up you sleeping at the airport. The boat transfer will finish at around XXX pm. And i think it's not advisable to go on a boat ride at night
4. Hotel rates in Maldives are subjected to 10% svc charge and 12% TGST !!!
Holiday Inn Overwater Pavilion.. Dream on!! cost Couple thousands per night
