Holland Tour

As I said, for peace of mind, with limited time in Holland, just take a tour - recommended to take TOURS & TICKETS [http://www.tours-tickets.com/] There are plenty of choices, just pick your suitable time.. The top fives listed by TOURS & TICKETS are :

For Excursions, I took #1 Countryside and windmills & #3 Hop on-Hop off tour. #4 Canal cruise is more for relaxing tour. #5 Grand holland is great if you have many days in Holland. #2 Touristbus is not so recommended - I just read it from the City Advisor link. They said that the bus is old etc. And yeah,, that's what I thought too when I saw the bus..!! ah ahha

COUNTRYSIDE AND WINDMILLS TOUR

Volendam, Marken and Windmills
Duration: 05:00 hours
Departure at 9:15 h. from at Damrak 34. Check-in 30 minutes before departure!

Tour details :

A visit to Amsterdam and The Netherlands is not complete witout having seen the lovely Dutch countryside. During this excursion you will see the Zaanse Schans, the picturesque windmill village, with its typical green-timbered houses and warehouses. Here we will visit a cheese farm where cheese still is being made in the traditional way.

After a highly informative demonstration you will get to taste and compare all types of cheeses (visit/demonstration free and optional). Other highlights of this excursion include the famous and lively fishing village of Volendam (where you will have time for lunch in a nice fish restaurant) and the boat trip to or from the former Island of Marken, where we will visit a local traditional clog maker, who will demonstrate you with enthusiasm how within minutes a simple piece of wood can be transformed into a wooden shoe (visit/demonstration free and optional).

This excursion is perfect to combine with a city tour in Amsterdam! Please also see our interesting package deals!
*As of November the trip to Marken will be made by bus and not by boat

My comment - if you are confident enough with the European train system, there's no need to combine the trip with the city tour trip. Reason, it is very easy to travel in Amsterdam. The train system is very systematic. You won't get lost. and the people are very friendly and helpful. You can ask, they speak very fluent English too! Just google through and find for your favourite spot. there are plenty! look for the nearest train station and vwallah!!

A-hah! see they have changed the trip to Marken to go by bus. Lucky I went in November (early) and my trip was by boat! and it was Excellent!!!

Enjoy the tour - my Holland pics in chronoligal order **

1. Meeting point at Damrak 17, 830am
The Damrak Street, Amsterdam Central

2. Going to Marken, the clog making and cheese factory

24.7km Amsterdam Central to Marken

On our way to Marken

Owh.. me trying a pair of clog

The clog 'factory'

That's a lot of clogs!

Yummylicious cheeeeeeeeeeese

I told u,,. that's a LOT of clogs!

3. Marken to Volendam
From Marken to Volendam by boat

As I said, I went in November. So I was lucky that the trip from Marken to Volendam was by boat. I get to see the nice view of Marker Sea in very cold temperature. Reached volendam with a very warm welcome by the villagers. Very nice people.
That time was about noon, I saw a kebab restaurant. It was owned by a Moroccon, I guess. He let me use his back room for praying. It's complete with Sejadah and he helped me with the Kiblat direction. Ate a very nice Halal kebab in Volendam and spend the rest of the time window-shopping.
On the boat to Volendam

Volendam - the fishing village
Approaching Volendam

Say good bye to the boat. We will continue our journey with the next bus

Not ours! :)

Nice people of Volendam

4. Volendam to Zaanse Schans
Volendam to Zaanse Schans, the windmills village

Then we proceed to Zaanse Schans, the windmill village. Windmills are one of Holland's trademark. Going to Holland without seeing windmills is not right. You have to see one - the real windmills. The best place to see is at Zaanse Schans. They have plenty...

A Japanese dude took this picture. Not really a dude.. grandpa maybe.. haha

Been longing to come here. Finally at last!

That's was shaky,,dude

Some of the biggest windmills

Man, it was chill

Love this

Windmills of Zaanse Schans

Good business, as usual

5. Back to Amsterdam Central

Arrived Amsterdam at about 4pm. Looks like there's plenty of time but I have a train to catch. Two more hours to Den Haag..

More to blog.. soon...

A bit of Holland

My Holland trip is quite short so besides the excursions, I've listed and collected few information should there'll be a NEXT trip.. Things to do and/or visit when in Amsterdam, Holland or I call it ..

MY HOLLAND FAVOURITE

Holland favourites;

Things to do/excursions:
  1. -City tour - just take a hop-on hop-off bus
  2. -Countryside tour
  3. -Tulips field - In July or September, I think
  4. -Efteling theme park (suggested by dear friend, Marise)
  5. -Ice Hotel
  6. -Madurodam Miniature City
  7. -Belgium 2 days trip

There's a nice hotel just outside Amsterdam central - DELTA AMSTERDAM,. it's located at the Damrak street. Single room start from €65/day. Other budget hotels need u to go upstairs, good for backpacker, without children! but for me this one is suitable,. it looks nice and have elevator.. I've learned my mistake when I've booked a hotel in New York City, without elevator - having to bring my 40kg bag (2 weeks in minnesota and Canada in the previous week) up the stairs - level 3!!

yikess!! no way - no more!!

OK now we go back to excursions,.. if your time is limited and you want a peace-of-mind trip, just take the tour. I can recommendTOURS & TICKETS at http://www.tours-tickets.com/ or LINDBERGH TOUR at http://www.lindbergh.nl/ They have plenty of trips and excursions for choose.. you can book earlier online the the price are fixed. What happen to me was, I didn't know about this company, so, I just had a walk along the Damrak street and the moment I reached their office, the trip was sold out. So, 1 day wasted and I hv to think of something else to do..

For country side tour they only have 2 sessions - morning 9am and afternoon 230pm. If u stay in the city then it's OK but for me, I need to catch 2 more trains all the way to Den Haag  (The Hague), which is 2 hours from the Amsterdam Central. So book early. You can check the price from the website, it's the same compared to buying at their office.

Modurodam - the miniature city

If u r from Amsterdam central, can take the tram no 9 from Den Haag HS or Den Haag Centraal. Train Den Haag HS-Amsterdam Central is €21.30 (return)

But for me, since I live with a friend in Den Haag, it's closer and I just took a tram.

Modurodam is abt 25 mins from Zatil's apartment, which is in Gevers Deynootoplein. From her place, just take a tram (No. 9), only 4 or 5 stations away. Entrance fee is €14.50 for adult. Children €10.50. This place is very good for children.. And adult too!

Madurodam - the miniature city
I will continue later on the Lindbergh trips - which I took 2.. Countryside tour and City tour..

Meteor strike in Russia hurts almost 1,000

Yesterday a meteor hit Russia and injured hundreds, or maybe thousands. It really captured my interest to blog in this. How powerful the impact of ONLY 1 meteor. We can imagine if there are hundreds of them, could be the end of day (Kiamat). Wallahualam. Semoga Allah lindungi negara kami yang tercinta. Aminn

http://youtu.be/TSCbKFwya6Q

MOSCOW: A plunging meteor which exploded with a blinding flash above central Russia , set off a shockwave that shattered windows and hurt almost 1,000 people in an event unprecedented in modern times.

Experts insisted the meteor’s fiery entry into the atmosphere on Friday was not linked to the asteroid 2012 DA 14, which later passed about 17,200 miles (27,700 kilometres) above the Earth without incident in an unusually close approach.
But the extraordinary event brought morning traffic to a sudden halt in the Urals city of Chelyabinsk as shocked drivers stopped to watch the falling meteor partially burning up in the lower atmosphere and light up the sky.

The fall of such a large meteor estimated as weighing dozens of tonnes was extremely rare, while the number of casualties as a consequence of its burning up around a heavily-inhabited area was unprecedented.

Chelyabinsk regional governor Mikhail Yurevich, quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency, said 950 people were injured, with two-thirds of the injuries light wounds from glass shards and other materials blown out by the shockwave.

Windows were shattered by the shockwave across the city’s region with the ministry saying almost 300 buildings were damaged including schools, hospitals, a zinc factory and even an ice hockey stadium.
“At 9:20 am (0320 GMT), an object was observed above Chelyabinsk which flew by at great speed and left a trail behind. Within two minutes there were two bangs,” regional emergencies official Yuri Burenko said in a statement.
The office of the local governor said that a meteorite had fallen into a lake outside the town of Chebarkul in the Chelyabinsk region and television images pointed to a six-metre (20-foot) hole in the frozen lake’s ice.
However it has yet to be finally confirmed if meteorite fragments made contact with the Earth and there were no reports that any locals had been hurt directly by a falling piece of meteorite.
Schools were closed for the day and theatre shows cancelled across the region after the shock wave blew out windows amid temperatures as low as minus 18 degrees Celsius (zero degrees Fahrenheit).
“Thank God that nothing fell onto inhabited areas,” President Vladimir Putin said in a meeting with Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov, ordering him to look into how to warn citizens about such events.
— ’A large object weighing tonnes’ —
The Russian Academy of Sciences said in a statement that it estimated the body to be several metres long and weighing several dozen tonnes. “It burned up at a height of 30-50 kilometres... but pieces could have fallen to Earth as meteorites.” The meteor explosion appears to be one of the most stunning cosmic events above Russia since the 1908 Tunguska Event, when a massive blast most scientists blame on an asteroid or a comet impact ripped through Siberia.
“I am scratching my head to think of anything in recorded history when that number of people have been indirectly injured by an object like this... it’s very, very rare to have human casualties,” Robert Massey, deputy executive secretary of Britain’s Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), told AFP.
But he stressed that he saw “absolutely no connection” between the Chelyabinsk event and asteroid 2012 DA 14.
Live images from a telescope at the Gingin Observatory in western Australia showed the asteroid looking like a white streak.
The time of closest approach was about 2:25 pm EST (1925 GMT), said the US space agency NASA, which had called the event “the closest-ever predicted approach to Earth for an object this large.” NASA estimates an asteroid such as 2012 DA 14 flies close to Earth every 40 years on average, but only hits our planet once every 1,200 years.
Paul Chodas, a research scientist in the Near Earth Object Program Office at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, called the meteor-asteroid combination an “incredible coincidence.” Chodas said it was “virtually impossible” to spot objects such as the meteor that struck Russia, which he called a “tiny asteroid”, ahead of time against a daytime sky.
With the meteor quickly a leading trend on Twitter, locals posted amateur footage on YouTube showing men swearing in surprise and fright, and others grinding their cars to a halt.
“First I thought it was a plane falling, but there was no sound from the engine... after a moment a powerful explosion went off,” witness Denis Laskov told state television.
The Chelyabinsk region is Russia’s industrial heartland, filled with smoke-chugging factories and other huge facilities that include a nuclear power plant and the massive Mayak atomic waste storage and treatment centre.
A spokesman for Rosatom, the Russian nuclear energy state corporation, said that its operations remained unaffected.
The emergencies ministry said radiation levels in the region also did not change and that 20,000 rescue workers had been dispatched to help the injured and locate those requiring help. -- AFP
STRIKING DISTANCE
In this frame grab made from dashboard camera video, a meteor streaks through the sky over Chelyabinsk, about 1500 kilometers (930 miles) east of Moscow, Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. With a blinding flash and a booming shock wave, the meteor blazed across the western Siberian sky Friday and exploded with the force of 20 atomic bombs, injuring more than 1,000 people as it blasted out windows and spread panic in a city of 1 million. OK so now we go to the second option, the Electronic Travel Authority 976  or ETA (Visitor) (Subclass 976).

Who is this ETA (Visitor) for?

An ETA (Visitor) (subclass 976) visa is designed for people who are outside Australia and want to visit Australia for holidays, tourism, recreation or for informal study.

Repeat visits

An ETA is not designed to allow repeated extended stays in Australia. If you want to spend long periods in Australia for tourism purposes, you may want to consider applying for Tourist visa (subclass 676) or an alternate visa that suits your purposes.

REMEMBER if you are entering Australia for Medical treatment or just Transit, u have to apply for a different visa okay!!

ETA eligible passports – apply online
